Drum Gatelodge was built at the end of a long avenue of beech trees at the western edge of the Ballylough Estate in 1800 by Archdeacon Traill two years after he bought the estate. His family are still in residence. It is a unique and pretty two storey gatelodge and is situated on a quiet country road, it’s rustic setting making it an ideal romantic retreat from the stresses of everyday life.
Guests do not have access to the private estate. Irish Landmark properties that welcome a pet may not have secure enclosures. It is vital that you supervise your pet during your stay. One dog is allowed at this property.

This has been a wonderful trip. Some of the most spectacular scenery we have ever seen… then home to the Drum for good books, good wine and good food. No doubt we will be returning in the not too distant future.
Just spent a delightful four nights at Drum Gatelodge. It was a perfect size for my husband and I, and our dog. Before arriving, I was initially worried that this character property might be a little cold and drafty, but the underfloor heating made it wonderfully cosy. It’s set on a quiet road, below a country lane perfect for an evening dog walk and everything is easy to get to with a short drive, especially the Giant’s Causeway.
We had a fabulous time at Drum Gatelodge. The cottage was so comfy, warm and everything you needed was there! The underfloor heating was such a comfort too! Capri our little dog also came along with us and this is such an important thing for us as she comes everywhere with us, she had a ball!
Third Irish Landmark property we have visited and yet again we were not disappointed. Another great house, wonderful location and a fantastic holiday had by all!
It was lovely to revisit the Drum Gate Lodge in Antrim, and enjoy old-world style (with some cosy modern comforts too!) It’s a great location for exploring the area, with the Giant’s Causeway and sandy beaches within easy reach. And you can bring your dog too!
