Millie is a BoxerMillie was adopted from Hannah in Cottage Rescue in August 2008. She had been tied to a pole by the roadside and was way too thin with bald patches around her ears and back. She had also been covered in tar and stones and Hannah and co. did an amazing job in getting her clean, as far as I know by covering her with butter! Millie has two great friends called Heidi & Hollie. She tried to eat a door frame once when she got locked in the kitchen by accident and she also marked handles on the windows upstairs trying to open them!

Absolute beauty.

I've only played a small part in it, if you hadn't rescued her (and many more like her) she wouldn't be where she is today. You do amazing work Hannah. Everyone can see how great Millie looks and get an idea what she's like. The biggest thing I've learnt is, if you're prepared to put in the effort you don't have to spend a fortune on buying a pet, there are so many of them out there in rescues that are just waiting for someone to give them their 'forever home'. It took months but Mil has finally unpacked her baggage!! As you can see from the pics the tongue is always out for a 'kiss'!

Thank you all for voting for Millie and YES owners should also be voted for. Fiona was great to take Millie on. I think she knew in her heart and soul that Millie is "A One in a Million Dog" and anybody that knows Boxers know they never grow out of being a puppy. I have a feeling that Millie knows she is a star. She is a rags to riches girl and her story is like most Rescue Dogs all over Ireland. They all come with baggage and some with bad pasts but most thankfully love their new owners, put the past behind them and head into their new lives! Thank you so very much for giving Millie that chance of a good life Fiona and for putting up with her antics LOL. Best of Luck to Fiona and Miss Millie.

Hannah is a lovely lady - great respect for all the work she does. It was lucky for Millie that Hannah & Co. found her. Off to vote for Millie.

Millie is the most adorable pet ever and that's down to the love and care given by Fiona. When I'm in her company I have to be very careful what I say to my children and the tone it's said in - Millie will not allow anyone to correct them, she loves kids. My girls get a thrill out of seeing her correcting the offending adults! Best of luck Mill, needless to say my vote has been cast.

Thank you so much Loretta. Yes you are so right, its worth putting in the effort. Many people could have been checking out Cottage Rescue's return policy but I was blessed that I didn't have other dogs in the house, so Mil got all the attention. I've got a new house which looks like its been through the wars with her but hey just look at that face... how could anyone give out to her!! Part of the problem probably - I just can't get mad at her!!

I know it's not possible, but I'd like to vote for Millie's new owner as dog of the year!! Without people like them dogs like Millie wouldn't have a chance. Re-homing rescued dogs isn't easy. I've had a couple of painful experiences myself but my lovely collie Jamie is turning into a real sweetheart after months of hassle. As Millie's owners have discovered, it's worth hanging in there. You'll be repaid with so much love.

In the first few weeks the only things she would eat were bread, supermilk and manuka honey. Walking her was a disaster!! If she saw another dog... oh man, she'd try to charge off. When that didn't work Miss Millie would start pulling, leaping about and SCREECHING to get to the other dog!

In February 2009 for her sake and mine she spent some time with Tammy in Fircroft (Kildare). The work they did was amazing. Her screeching to get to another dog was just to play, so with their training and 'buzz' words I've got a fab gal back! Honestly looking back its amazing where she was and where she is now. All the work put in with Millie, the patience and TLC was so worth it. She's a great little dog now.

Of course with those big doe eyes and innocent face she knows how to get what she wants! And as for ice-cream cones... wow the ONLY things worthy of a drool!! A rattle of the car keys has her bouncing around!! Anything with wings... she jumps around like a mad thing trying to catch and she sounds like a little tractor with all the energy she puts in.

I dread to think where Millie would be now if Hannah had not rescued her. She does incredible work with dogs like Millie. But I was talking with colleagues in work and we were saying that while of course there are good outcomes there are also the animals that had just too much suffering and had to be PTS. This must make the work they do so much harder. I'd like to say a huge thank you to Hannah and all in Cottage Rescue. Without the work they do I would not have Millie. She's not just a cracking dog but my best friend too! She's always there regardless with hugs n cuddles!
