Great Places to Bring Dogs in Galway

Gurteen Bay & Dogs Bay, Roundstone - Recommended by Norma Campbell

There are two lovely beach walks just outside Roundstone - Gurteen Bay and Dogs Bay. The walk along the beach is just lovely and the water is very safe on both beaches for both humans and dogs to swim in! Great place to collect sea shells. You can make a long walk here by starting out on either beach and walking to the headland and back to the other beach. A walker can cross a commonage and return to their car. In the Roundstone House Hotel they have a booklet called Roundstone Rambles which is free and it gives very detailed directions for this walk and many others in the area. I have to say beware there are cattle and sheep in the commonage in case the dogs chase. I've attached a picture of Hayley (aged 12) after a swim and roll in the sand!
